A Job Prize Inspired by the MIT Darpa Network (Balloon) Challenge Solution (heroku.com)

This is a prize that I put together over the past couple of days. It is inspired by the Network Challenge that DARPA hosted, and that MIT won in such a cool fashion. I am very poor at pursuing jobs in traditional ways, and often times get discouraged scouring Craigslist and other sites. So after seeing the success of the MIT solution, I thought a similar solution might work to find me a job.

The site was written in about three days in Ruby on Rails. I'd like to make it look better to reflect my design talent, but I realized that if I wasn't embarrassed by my first release, then I would have waited too long.

Even if this doesn't find me a job, it will have at least been an interesting experiment. Thank you.

It's clever but your job search may be difficult given your ideal job description...

That's a great article. Thank you.

Even if as your link says, that there are adverse responses by some people to creativity, there will be others who are receptive.

Along that path of creativity-inclined people is where I think my prize money will ultimately go.

The DARPA Network Prize, which inspired my job prize, is itself a testament to a desire for creativity.

Brilliant! You should link to your submission: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1010887

What does it mean for a job to be "democratically run"?

Democratically run businesses are companies with a lot of group autonomy, policies that are set by consensus of groups instead of through top-down hierarchical edicts, and there is a network of co-evaluation instead of just bosses being the sole evaluators. Notable examples of companies that operate on democratic principles are Semco and Gore Associates (the guys who make Gore-Tex)

When I pointed to the characteristic of democracy it was an ideal consideration. I am not so presumptuous to think that all ideal conditions will be met perfectly.

will you open source this?

I'm not sure. I hadn't thought about it until now, I was just so obsessed with getting it done. I don't see why not. I want everyone to benefit from my activities. I could even do a tutorial on my blog explaining the decisions I made while crafting it.

What licenses would people recommend for a service based software project like this? MIT? It would kind of be appropriate considering the inspiration.

I'm a huge fan of the MIT & BSD licenses, they are truly free.
